Emotional intelligence, Rational Intelligence and Intelligence.

What is intelligence?

Intelligence has been defined in many different ways, including the abilities, but not limited to,
abstract thought, understanding, self-awareness, communication, reasoning, learning, having emotional knowledge, retaining, planning, and problem solving (from the wikipedia).

Long time ago, intelligence was seen as the ability to solve rational problems. But today, this is not enough. A person that a good rational intelligence, but that have bad relationships with people cannot be successful in life. For example, if I can work very good with computer science, but I am a bad colleague in work, or I treat badly the customers, I have no chance to keep my job.

So, Intelligence, can be seen as two parts:
            a) Rational Intelligence - more related with scientific criterias
            b) Emotional Intelligence - more related to the way we lead with emotions, intrapersonal emotions (how do we behave with the reality) and interpersonal emotions (how do we behave with other people). Empathy is an important aspect in emotional intelligence - the way we understand an other people.

So, in the past success = good Racional Intelligence.

Actually, success= good Rational Intelligence +(plus) good Emotional Intelligence

Intelligence= Rational Intelligente + Emotional Intelligence.
